The Justice Defense Committee (KOS) appeals to the Venice Commission for an urgent opinion on the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court

January 15th, 2023
The Justice Defense Committee (KOS) appeals to the Venice Commission for an urgent opinion on the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court. Last Friday, the bill was passed by the Parliament and sent to the Senate.
The KOS appeal is addressed to the Marshal of the Senate and the chairmen of the Legislative Committee and the Human Rights, Rule of Law and Petitions Committee.

We believe that the urgent opinion of the Venice Commission will have a significant impact on the content of any amendments proposed by the Senate and will lead to the compliance of the Act with the Constitution, EU law and the European Convention on Human Rights. The recommendations of the Venice Commission will also contribute to “improving the investment climate, in particular by protecting the independence of the judiciary”, a requirement that was the basis for the formulation of the “milestones” regarding the judiciary.

We trust that, following the example of the legislative procedure in 2020, when the Senate considered the so-called “muzzle act”, also this time the upper house of the parliament will defend fundamental values and human rights and freedoms.

The appeal was signed by KOS Partners:
Association Prof. Zbigniew Hołda

Association of Prosecutors “Lex Super Omnia”
